Al Andaluz Project - Deus Et Diabolus

Al Andaluz Project is a fascinating collaboration between Spanish world & traditional folk group, L'Ham de Foc and German medieval music ensemble, Estampie - that has already received high praise in the European press. Their album "Deus Et Diabolus" focuses on the musical landscape of Moorish medieval Spain - when Christian, Muslim and Sephardic-Jewish peoples were successfully interacting - with tolerance, scholarship, the arts, trade and prosperity all flourishing in a multi-cultural society. There is a breathtaking richness of virtuosity and instrumentation including oud, saz, fiddle, organistrum, zanfona, hurdy-gurdy, nyckelharp, rabab, qanun, etc & assorted percussion. played by virtuoso musicians Efren López, Michael Popp, Ernst Schwindl, Aziz Samsaoui, Sascha Gotowtschikow and Diego López - as well as the three exceptional vocalists : Sigrid Hausen, Mara Aranda and Iman al Kandoussi.

The Sax Pack

With plenty of funk, R&B, soul, and jazz influences, the three saxmen effortlessly bridge the gap between instrumental virtuosity, seamless ensemble playing, and a high-caliber creative chemistry that runs the stylistic gamut in what's regarded as very accomplished project.
Featuring smooth jazz saxophonists Jeff Kashiwa, Kim Waters, and Steve Cole, the album comes after three years of summer tours by the talented threesome.
The charming, talented trio heat up their fans from the first song to the last song -- leaving them wanting for more.
Jeff, Kim and Steve are the total package -- great musicians, great personalities, and great showmen.
This is a winning combination: the album that will appeal to most Smooth Jazzers...

Carmen Cavallaro - The Eddy Duchin Story

New York City, New York, USA. Immortalized by Tyrone Power, who portrayed the pianist-bandleader in the movie-biography The Eddy Duchin Story, with Carmen Cavallaro providing the soundtrack keyboard work.
Though trained as a pharmacist, Duchin opted to become a professional musician during the late 20s and, after auditioning against stiff opposition for the piano chair in Leo Reisman's Orchestra, eventually gained the job. Featured as part of Reisman's band at New York's Central Park Casino during the next three years, he became extremely popular owing to his suave appearance and sophisticated, flashy piano style, and in 1931 he formed his own band, taking over the residency at the Casino. With violinist Milt Shaw providing many of the outfit's supper-club type arrangements during the 30s, Duchin gained dates at many swanky venues, won various radio shows, appeared in films such as Coronado (1935) and The Hit Parade (1937), also winning a recording contract, first with Victor Records, then later with Brunswick Records and Columbia Records.Following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, Duchin entered the navy, serving as a lieutenant. In 1945, he returned to civilian life and began leading one of the musical aggregations to bear his name, though his popularity was less than it had been prior to the war years. His health gradually declined and in February 1951 he died of leukaemia.

Amr Diab - Kammel Kalamak (FinishYour Words)

Diab's latest album,Kammel_Kalamak" is the long anticipated follow up to Leily_Nahary" It was rumoured to be released in the summer of 2005 but was pushed back to Eid. The album took a reported $4M to record, and is Rotana's biggest album of 2005.Full album releases appeared on many websites prior to its official release, which is speculated to be the reason why the album's release date was suddenly shortened to a few days prior to the previously mentioned release date. The love ballad "We Malo" was released as the single of the album, The music video was shot in London and was released on a late notice after the release of the album. Rumors surfaced in late 2005 and early 2006 stated that Amr is considering terminating his contract with Rotana due to the poor promotion of his latest album, Kammel Kalamak. The idea of "Wemalo" video clip was produced by the young talented producer and Graphic Designer Muhannad Majdalawieh, Also the music video was shot and produced by the great Khalil Al-Araj with the help of two talented production assistants Mohammad Al Khairy and Ghadeer AlHmoud . who now have one of the biggest recording companies in the Middle East.

Review
Hands down; every single Amr Diab album turns out to be awesome! No need to worry here.
All the tracks on this album are enjoyable and typical Amr Diab; catchy rythms and lyrics. On this album, there is a good combination of party songs, mellow songs and romantic songs. There is an especially romantic and melodic song on there called "Wamaloh." Very nice!!
Every album that comes out by Amr Diab makes you say "No, this has got to be the best of all his albums." And that's what you'll say about this one!

Amr Diab - El Lilady (This Night )

The album was officially released on July 11th, 2007. The album has already become a huge hit in Egypt and all over the middle-east. The album sold over 1,000,000 copies in only 5 days of release. The video clip has been slated for a July 27th release. The song that Amr chose to film was N'eoul Eih, which is unique with the new style of House Music mixed with oriental Arabic music. The video clip was filmed in California's own Santa Monica & Malibu, and also near Hollywood. El Leila De has once again proved that Amr Diab is the Middle East's top singer. On July 27th, Rotana News announced that "El Leila De" has sold over 2 million copies in less than two weeks in the Middle East, which gives the album a good chance to surpass Kammel_Kalamak 3 million copies in one month. On the 30th of October 2007, the management of the World Music Awards announced that Amr Diab was to receive an award for best selling artist in the Middle East for this album. Amr Diab received the award in the festival that was held in Monaco, Monte-Carlo, on the 4th of November 2007, with a total of three WMA's in his career.

Amr Diab - Lealy Nahary (My Nights, My Days)

In late summer of 2004, Diab's first album with Rotana was released, titled Leily Nahary (My Nights, My Days). The album's cover was from the promotional photo shoot of Pepsi. The video "Leily Nahari" directed by Casey Cameron which provided aid to give Amr his space in the record-exclusive music channels. It was still criticized because of its similarity to his previously unreleased video for "El Alem Allah" from the album Tamally Ma'ak.

Review

Like all Amr Diab's records, Lealy Nahary is still relevant and fresh a year later! I was listening to it nonstop back in summer 2004 and now it's back in full force on my musical radar.

Granted it's not Tamally Maak--Diab's best work to date--it's very close behind. No boring or uninteresting tracks here. Each has its unique sound and appeal. The ballads on this album, however, are truly extraordinary. I get the chills everytime I hear "Qusad Einy"; what a beautiful song!

Here's the rundown:

1. Lealy Nahary (7/10): Diab's signature is larger-than-life upbeat album openers. This one falls short of that. Good song, though. The songs expresses Amr's yearning and love for his beloved partner. It's amazing how he makes such hackneyed subjects enjoyable!
2. Wahashtiny (8/10): The first ballad on the record. He talks about life in the absence of his lover. He cries out, "I miss you!" Sweet song.
3. Tinnsa Wahda (10/10): A mid-tempo Amr Diab classic and one of my favorite songs on the album. He pleads with his heart to stop breaking the hearts of many in its process to forget its own heartache.
4. Khad Alby Maah (7/10): OK song about the trite subject of can't-get-over-my-ex-ever!
5. Yedok Elbab (10/10): I love how this song sound! He is afraid to answer his door cause he rather lives in his fantasy of having his ex being behind that door than to face reality and the possibility that she may not be there!
6. Dayman Fi Bali (10/10): Sonically influenced by Rai, this song is not lyrically strong with yet another trite subject of love, yearning and whatnot.
7. Khaleena Neshoufak (5/10): I am underwhelmed! We heard it before, Amr!
8. Qusad Einy (11/10): I absolutely love this ballad! I can't even describe how much I love it! He reassures his loved one that even though they are apart, they're always together and soon will reunite. Amr's voice gives me the chills as he croons away.
9. illa Heya (9/10): Definitely influenced by Spanish/gypsy sounds. He affirms that his one and only is SHE.
10. Rihet El Habayib (11/10): What a beautiful, albeit melancholy, way to culminate this beautiful record. He begs for his traveled loved ones to give him signs every once in a while that they are OK. Heartbreaking it makes me cry.

It's definitly worth having if you are an Amr Diab fan or if you are curious about contemporary Arabic pop music. Any of his albums, actually, are a good place to start.

Amr Diab - Allem Alby (Teach My Heart)

Allem Alby
Later in 2003, Diab released (Teach My Heart). The album's release date was arranged to be with the debut broadcast of Alam El Phan's (Allem Alby's Production Company, Owned by Mohsen Gaber) music channel "Mazzika".The album was a great success, with the release of the video "Ana Ayesh" which was directed by Stuart Gosling. The video was intensely broadcasted on Mazzika . The album contains other songs, like the album-titled "Allem Alby" which is a solid Rhythm and Blues influenced hit. Others that tend to be more oriental like "Kolohom", "Law Ash'any" and "Alli El Wada
Review

Every once and a while I come across a musician, that initiates a tidal wave of new discoveries, enriches my world beyond what I was able to imagine only moments prior. Amr Diab has been one of these - introduced to me from the brilliant Putumayo CD Arabic Groove. Allem Alby is Amr Diab's latest release from a career that stems over 15 years. Where Amr is adored by the Arabic world for his light hearted pop version of Arabic music, this album mixes together influences from both polar opposites of pop culture: it is a haunting collection of songs that remind you of Billie Holiday's drug hazed crooning blended with the Abba-like melodic pop anthems played with the Egyptian tabla, that will stick to your brain like crazy glue. Every repeated listen reveals yet another influence you haven't thought of previously....it's Beck Hansen, it's Backstreet Boys....it's Boston Pops on the Fourth of July. Amr's phenomenal voice carries both the melodies and the stories to my feeble non-arabic speaking heart, and they're there to stay for life. He'll sooth your soul, melt your heart, and energize your day in 51 minutes plus change. You'll wiggle your hips, jiggle your shoulders, and sway with the songs over and over again, Amr opens up an undiscovered world to so many of us ... the land of romance, melody, and rhythm with an Arabic twist. He has the voice of an angel I can only adore in total awe, and the looks of a Greek ... or should I say an Egyptian God. So is it any wonder that my 10 year old daughter's comment on this CD became the title of this review? This is, and will remain, one of the 'ten deserted island' CD's that will never leave my collection of most cherished music for life.

Amr Diab - Awedony

His follow-up studio album entitled Awedony was released in July 1998, and as with Nour El Ain it was produced with Hamid El Shaery and recorded in Cairo, Egypt. The first video from the album, the title track "Awedony", was shot by the river Nile in Egypt and directed by Tareq Al Aryan. Like its predecessor, this album was a huge success for Amr and reinforced his popularity in the Arab world and abroad.

The Best of Amr Diab released in early 1999 contained a brand new song "Maham Kibirt Sugheir" recorded as a tribute to the Legends of Arabic music such as Umm Kulthum and Abdel Halim Hafez that have influenced him. A strong ballad with a spectacular video of the concert footage inspired by Puff Daddy (whom he met at the Monaco Awards) it became another big hit for Diab. The album also contains a previously unreleased European remix of "Habibi", and the most popular songs from Amr's albums of the 1990s.
Reviews
There is a dominating nostalgic semblance to this album. It reminds me a bit of Weylomoni and Ya Omrena, which are two great albums by Mr. Diab. The music ranges from Nubian-influenced to Moorish to Arabic Pop. Most of the songs are standouts, especially El Malak El Baree and Melk Edaik, which are two of my all-time-favorite songs.

This is a happy album that's bound to cheer you up regardless of your mood, background or language. This is, in my opinion, the power of Amr Diab's work. He is the epitome of musical transcendence in the Middle East.

Amr Diab - Amarain (Two Moons)

Amarain
Diab released his July 1999 new studio album Amarain, (two moons) which is hailed as the best work of his career to date. Amr is working on eagerly anticipated duets with the France based international Rai superstar, Khaled of "Didi" fame, and with the Greek singer, Angela Dimitrou, whose crossover smash "Marguerites" was a huge hit across the Middle East in 1998. The title track Amarain is the first video to be broadcast and the album seems certain to confirm Amr's position as the leading and most innovative artist from the Middle East.

Review
Amarain is the kind of a cd that you can not restrict with the number of words. Amr-Diab is the kind of a singer that you can not define his personality and his singing ability with compliments. It is a fantastic, amazing

Amr Diab -Tamally Ma'ak (Always With You)

Tamally Ma'ak
Diab revolutionized Arab music when he issued Tamally Ma'ak. He introduced the Spanish guitar in his song "Tammaly Ma'ak" and in other songs. The clip of this song was made in the Czech Republic with much success. The album contained songs like "Al'alem Allah", "Ba'terf", "Sa'ban Alaea" and "Wa Hiya Amla Eih".

Amr Diab's forte has got to be his ability to transcend the lingual and cultural borders with his sensuous music. TAMALLY MAAK's eclectic melodies will appeal and be remembered by both Western and Eastern audiences that appreciate world music.
Here is the rundown:

1. El-Alim Allah (God knows): Reminiscent of his earlier hit "Nour El Ain", this track creates a Gypsy-Kings-like danceable ambience. A great album opener! 10/10
2. Tamalli Maak (Always with you): The title track and the first ballad of the album. This is a song that grows on you the more you listen to it. Definitely a hit! 10/10
3. Keda Eyni Eynak (So bluntly): A typical Amr Diab's song. Catchy tune, light and always fun to listen to. 9/10
4. Wu He Amla Eh (What is she doing now?): Another Amr Diab's light track. 9/10
5. Seneen (Years): This has got to be my favorite track in this album. Very cheerful and effervescent, the song's rhythm and melody makes you dance in your seat. The guitar will resonate in your soul. 10/10
6. Aamel Eh (What shall I do?): Very catchy seemingly-folkloric tune! I really like the ethereal, faint vocals echoing in the background echoing his words. Not as good as the previous tracks, though, for that it sounds pretty dated. 8/10
7. Law Kan Yerdheek: (If it pleases you): Sounds like a track from one of his older albums. Great song, though. 8/10.
8. Baatarif (I confess): This is such a heartfelt and very touchy ballad. The tempo is slow and soothing. Definitely a romantic song expressing love and yearning through beautifully arranged vocals and strings. 10/10
9. Albi Ikhtarak (My heart chose you): Very similar to Marc Anthony's "I Need to Know" rhythm-wise. Amr manages the high pitches very well. The use of the guitar gives the song a really cool edge. 9/10
10. Saaban Alayya: This is a somber yet promising track. I personally love it. 10/10

Amr Diab - Aktar Wahed (The Most One)

Aktar Wahed
On 1 August 2001, and after a great anticipation by the huge number of fans, Aktar Wahed was released. The album's name is a short for one of the songs "Aktar Wahed Beyhebbak". It contains 10 tracks and a bonus oriental remix for the song "Wala Ala Balo". "Wala Ala Balo", a well-studied mash up of both Trance/Techno rhythms and Oriental Arabic Music. The song featured the rapper SandMan. The video on the other hand was shot in London in a discotheque. An even newer style for Amr Diab, he received a number of Platinum Awards for the sales of the album, and received his second World Music Award in Monaco in 2001 for best selling album for middle-eastern singer, the album contains a good number of significant songs like "Adeeni Rege'telek", "Ya Habeeby La", "Sadda'ni Khalas" and "Ba'edd Ellayali"
Reviews
Just when you thought Amr Diab couldn't possibly release better music, he goes ahead and surprises you! This album is as great as Tamally Maak-Amr's best work to date, in my opinion. There are ballads for your heart, dance tracks for your waist and feet and semi-lounge tracks for any occasion where mellow and sweet music is required. There is definitely a North African/Spanish influence in the music of these 11 songs. The guitar is used in almost every song and Amr's voice has never been better.

It's very hard to pick a favorite song since the songs are great in their own right. Having said that, I really feel an affinity to Ya Habibi La. The guitar works like a seductive goddess. The vocals and the lyrics are heart-melting.

Mythos - Mythos & Purity

It's fair to think of Mythos as a pulp-free version of Deep Forest Enigma or Delerium, acts known to blend spirit-led grooves with spectral incantations while stirring up mystic-ambient potions. Canadians Paul Schmidt (guitar) and Bob D'Eith (piano, keyboards) eschew most of the ambiguous, overt chanting favored by the aforementioned acts, preferring a smoother yet satisfying sound highlighted by Schmidt's crystalline classical guitar, D'Eith's mysterious, gently propulsive electronic atmospheres and judicious use of angelic female vocalese. This eponymous recording serves as the duo's debut release for the Higher Octave label, though it includes nine tracks from an older, self-released production titled Introspection. While this 16-track disc begins to lose some creative steam in its late stages, the disc's opening 5 tracks (particularly the seductive "November") are reward enough for owning this recording. D'Eith's shrewd use of shadowed textures and subtle grooves raises an intoxicating mist in your imagination, bringing to mind the sonic and thematic allure of by the

Purity: Haunting chants and percussions. It is a wonderful mélange of lights drums, chants and violin with a melody that only Mythos is capable of. Perfect start to the album.
Surrender: What a wonderful melodic track. Piano, drums and the violin have been mixed to perfection. It'll evoke strong subliminal emotions. Feels like you're connecting to your inner self and to higher consciousness. Awesome!

Alten Mara: Haunting Chants, but the hallmark of the track is the stunning melodic mythos music that has dream percussions, rolling guitar and floatation chants.

Andalucia: Slow throbbing drums and soft chants.

Icarus: This track has a peppy (very unlike Mythos) start. However after a minute or so percussions kick in and take the track into high gear. There are typical mythos sounds in the background. It seems like this track has been influenced by Yanni and a bit of Ronan Hardiman.

Adagio: Befitting the name, this slow track with rolling acoustic guitar will fill your heart with warm & subtle emotions. It feels like the background music for a love saga (with a sad end).

Mizo's Gift: Another very listenable track that has a steady percussion cadence with charming violin and guitar interludes that makes the track swing between happiness & sadness. The end of the track is a happy beginning that is so very reminiscent of freshness of morning air and unending love.

Deux Es Machina: You'll have to listen to this track to understand the delicate and intricate layers. I particularly like the drums (almost sounds like Indian drums) and the haunting flute will take your breath away. This track has a very strong spiritual and Indian feel to it.

Dream: Very very good. One of the best tracks of the album. This is indeed an acoustic representation of a dream. The layering, mixing and the violin (almost classical) interludes are just perfect.

Mystique: A complexly layered track wih undulating, intermittent percussions and powerful lows and highs. Can't get enough of it. The end just disappears into yonder.

Triste: Again, befiting the name this track will evoke a soft sad feeling. The percussions are perfect as is the Piano. It has a sad farewell and I just can't get enough of this track.

What amazes me is that each track will evoke happy and sad emotions in you. Music has the power to elevate you to higher consciousness that is full of love and humility. Mythos has sprung a wonderful album and the 4 year wait for this album has been worth it. Their music has matured manifold since last time.

Salah Ragab And The Cairo Jazz Band.Present Egyptian Jazz

Drummer and multi-instrumentalist Salah Ragab was a central figure in the history of jazz in Egypt. A sometime collaborator with Sun Ra, Ragab founded the Cairo Jazz Band in 1968, the same year that he became the head of the Egyptian Military Music Department. The Cairo Jazz Band was Egypt's first big band, mixing American jazz with North African music, combining jazz instrumentation and musical style with indigenous melodies and instruments, like the nay (bamboo flute) and the baza (ramadan drum). Such musical cross-fertilization was not unusual in itself; American musicians from Sun Ra to Yusef Lateef had long been fascinated by the music of Islam and North Africa, incorporating both the instruments and musical forms of the Fertile Crescent into their work. But Salah Ragab’s music presents a topsy-turvied perspective, a view from the other side of the musical equation of West meets Middle East.

More importantly, however, The Cairo Jazz Band seriously swings. While there have been some tantalizing tidbits from Ragab available in the past, such as the Sun Ra Arkestra Meets Salah Ragab in Egypt release on Leo Records, this reissue is the first time such a wide variety of Salah Ragab and the Cairo Jazz Band's music has been made available outside Egypt. Collecting material from 1968-73, Egyptian Jazz is published by the UK imprint Art Yard, who have hitherto exclusively released an outstanding series of vinyl-only Sun Ra recordings. It's no surprise, then, that there's much here to appeal to Sun Ra aficionados, but with songs like the swaggeringly cocksure “Egyptian Strut” and blow-outs like the scorching “Ramadan in Space Time” and the ultra-groovy “Neveen,” this record more than stands on its own. As head of the Egyptian Military Music Department, Ragab had access to some of Egypt's finest instrumentalists, and he drew deep from this pool of musical talent. The ensemble playing is top-notch throughout and there are stand-out solos on flute, sax, and keyboards, notably on the percussion-heavy "Neveen."

The CD version, which is the first such release by Art Yard, contains four bonus tracks, none of which, save perhaps the alternate take of "Kleopatra," smack remotely of filler. Indeed, one of the most enjoyable and idiosyncratic Ragab pieces here, the mysterious, multi-part serpentine stomper, "A Farewell Theme," is available only on the CD version. It's a fantastic release from beginning to end, capturing a particularly fruitful moment of musical cross-pollination.

Maria Callas

According to her birth certificate, Maria Callas was born Sophia Cecelia Kalos at Flower Hospital in Manhattan on December 2, 1923[4] to Greek parents George Kalogeropoulos and Evangelia "Litsa" (sometimes "Litza") Dimitriadou, though she was christened Maria Anna Sofia Cecilia Kalogeropoulou – the genitive of the patronymic Kalogeropoulos – (Greek: Μαρία Άννα Σοφία Καικιλία Καλογεροπούλου). Callas's father shortened the surname Kalogeropoulos first to "Kalos" and subsequently to "Callas" in order to make it more manageable

Demis Roussos - The Definitive Collection

In the light of intellectual European civilization, Artemios Roussos was born on June 15, 1946 in the city of Alexandria, Egypt. As George and Olga’s first son, he was of Greek extraction. Three years later, his younger brother Costandinos, was born. Throughout his childhood he was influenced by the different cultures that were harmonically living together in Egypt. The sound of Arabic music entered into his life at that time and stayed up until today, one of his biggest influences. At the age of ten, he was intrigued by Jazz and learnt to play the trumpet. The young boy also attended the choir of the Greek Byzantine church of Alexandria and sang for five years as a soloist. But when Artemios reached the age of fifteen, his life changed for ever. During the Suez Canal crisis, his family left Egypt and immigrated to their homeland, Greece. Artemios then had to work to support his family. During the day, he attended school and at night, he played the trumpet in various clubs in Athens. Two years later, his first band was formed known as « The Idols ». The band had a singer and Artemios played the Bass Guitar and sang backing vocals as well. One day, something happened that was about to change his life story. As the singer needed to rest, he asked Artemios to replace him for a few songs. That night, when Artemios started singing the « House Of The Rising Sun » and « When A Man Loves A Woman », the audience was amazed. From then on every night, Artemios was asked to sing again and again. In Greece, Artemios was beginning to make a quality reputation when he met a man, who would later become one of his most successful composer, Lakis Vlavianos. A new band was born, the « We Five ». And Artemios was now, the official leading singer. In 1968, Artemios’s journey crossed the road of two other top Greek musicians, Vangelis Papatanassiou and Loukas Sideras. Their work association was about to become one of the biggest musical events of the seventies the « Aphrodite’s Child ». The ambitious music band, decided to join the United Kingdom for a better commercial chance and career and Artemios (whose name, they now shortened to Demis) would be the singer and the bass player, Vangelis the main composer as well as the keyboard player and Loukas would play the drums. As the city of Paris was going through the May 68 revolution, the Aphrodite’s Child arrived and ended up staying there, after being rejected from the United Kingdom for lack of working permit. After a few concerts in some of the trendy Parisian clubs, a major company proposed the band, to record a song, inspired from classical piece « the pachelbel‘s canon » called « Rain And Tears ». The first album of the Aphrodite’s Child, sold over a million copies, considering France only. Nine months later, as Demis first child daughter, Emily was born, « Rain And Tears » was a top single all over Europe and a top 20 single in the United Kingdom. The band went thru a huge success for three years and after following the release of their legendary last album “666”, for various reasons, decided to split-up. It was then extremely important for Demis, what decisions he would make, regarding his career. Since he was one of the main elements of the band, the record company decided to give him a chance and so was recorded his first solo artist single, «We Shall Dance ». Came along with an album called « On the Greek Side of My Mind ». Immediately, the album and the single jumped into the top five of all the national hit parades of Europe, starting from Italy to Spain, France, Holland, Germany and Scandinavia. And so, in the year 1971, Demis Roussos was. A couple of months later, Demis met with his old friend of the « We Five », Lakis Vlavianos. Lakis was then going thru an inspiring period of his life and wrote many songs which Demis recorded and made a string of number one hits all over the world: « Forever And Ever », « My Friend the Wind », « Velvet Morning » etc, etc… As his second child was born in 1975, Cyril, Demis toured the globe with his second wife and child for eight years. In Brazil, he packed a stadium of 150 000 people. An event that was achieved in that particular stadium twice only. Once by Franck Sinatra and once by Demis Roussos. Demis sold enough records to gain a name in the Guinness Book of records among the personalities of show business in the 70’s and the eighties. He was awarded more than a hundred golden, platinum, and diamond albums and cassettes. His unique dressing style was often considered eccentric but Demis was following his instinct which told him that the music he was performing should match with the combination of looks between the glorious Byzantine Empire and the Arabic Caftan. In 1978 his instinct told him again that he should retire for a wile, thinking of new things concerning his career and life. And so he took his family to an area of the world, where he was unknown, Malibu Beach, California. There, Demis lost 120 pounds in weight and visited parts of the world he had never known before. At that point, Demis went to a new phase of his life where human beings and all their weaknesses, vanities and worries began to occupy his mind. He returned to Europe and lived a quieter life between England and Greece, alone with his son Cyril. On June 14 1985, wile he was travelling from Athens to Rome, an event occured that put a decisive turning point on his life and career and emphasized his feelings and thoughts about man-kind. That day, Demis’ TWA airplane was hijacked by terrorists and Demis and many other victims were held hostage. After two days in that plane praying, Demis was held three days in the prison of Beyrouth with his third wife and went like many other survivors, through the shock of a traumatic experience. After that tragedy, Demis said he never understood so well the importance of the nations living in peace and how precious life is when you see death so close. He felt more than ever, that his contribution for a better tomorrow could be via music and so decided to return to the recording and performance scene. He recorded twenty other songs and compiled an album called « The story of Demis Roussos » With this album, Demis started to world tour again and found a nostalgic audience who had missed his magic voice. In 1986 Demis toured the USSR for three weeks and was invited to join important scientists, writers and artists at the forum for peace and disarmament which took place in the Kremlin, in Moscow, in February 1987. During a tight TV schedule in Chili, Demis insisted on fitting in a visit to the Earth summit in Rio, in order to get a clearer picture of the environmental problems, which are a main concern for Demis. Demis Roussos Christmas album, recorded in 1987, is considered to be one of the most saleable classic album ever recorded and by special request Demis toured the major cathedrals of France during the holiday season. From then on, Demis was a regular visitor of the charts again in the world with singles, such as « Quand je t’aime » and « On écrit sur les murs », and albums, such as « Voice and Vision » and « Immortel ».
In 2008, Demis lives in Greece by the sea. After being one of the most talented singer of his century, Demis is still working on
more magic to offer, with the blessing of music and GOD...

Harry Connick, Jr - Come By Me

People first smitten with Harry Connick Jr. due to his easy, timeless charm and swoon-worthy croon on the 1989 soundtrack When Harry Met Sally are
in for a big treat.
a delightful sequence of treasures both old and new, is Connick's first big-band record since 1991's Blue Light, Red Light What's not to like? With equal precision and confidence, Connick and his 16-piece band (and at times a full symphony orchestra) move seamlessly between the boisterous self-penned title cut, the Mancini standard "Charade," and the Cole Porter gem "Love for Sale." He gives a straight and moving voice and piano take on "Danny Boy," a stepped-up freshness to "There's No Business Like Show Business," and "Cry Me a River," following his unique vision, becomes an emotionally broken Bourbon Street funereal march. Strings swell, horns wail and skronk, high hats tap time, and those magic fingers dance across the keys. All told, Come by Me is a welcome invitation

Vujicsics Ensemble - Samo Svira

This CD was produced in Szentendre, Hungary at a concert in
the churchyard of St. John the Baptist Church in Jan. 1997.
It reveals the complex musical heritage and diversity of ethnic groups that
exists in Hungary today. It is my absolute favorite Vujicsics CD to date.
Whenever I listen to the music of the Balkans,
I become nostalgic for my dancing days,
when I did the Serbian kolos and the complex intricate dance steps of Macedonia.
The musicians on this CD started playing together and
collecting this wonderful music in the mid- to late 1970s.
They have honored their teacher and mentor, Tihamer Vujicsics,
an ethnomusicologist and former pupil of Kodaly,
who passed away at a relatively early age
