Pierre Bensusan - Intuite

Ignore the surreal New Age cover painting with Pierre's leafy features peering quizzically from a tree--Intuite is a delightful album. It's also Bensusan's first entirely unaccompanied and totally acoustic recording in a professional career that began in 1976 with his Près de Paris album. Though he never took formal guitar lessons, Bensusan is among the world's most highly respected fingerstyle guitarists and has been dubbed the Claude Monet of the guitar. Aside from recordings, he has also produced several instructional books and videos for guitar players. Born in Algeria in 1957, he moved with his family to Paris when he was four. He took his early cues from the folk revival of the 1960s, but the breadth of his influences goes way beyond that, with flavors ranging through jazz, classical, and medieval into world and, in particular, Celtic music. All of these styles can be heard on Intuite, with perhaps the most striking example being the title track. This is one of seven pieces dedicated to other musicians, in this case Iraqi oud player Munir Bachir. Bensusan skillfully mimics the modality of the Arab lute even though he currently sticks exclusively to the unusual DADGAD guitar tuning. The piece dedicated to British guitarist John Renbourn, "En Route from Scarborough," borrows cleverly from the classic melody "Scarborough Fair," although this and all other compositions are Bensusan's own. Another highlight is "La Hora Española," which effectively evokes an Iberian ambience without resorting to clichés. Using neither vocals nor other instruments, Intuite constitutes a series of chilled abstract narratives--ideal music for unwinding after a stressful day

Ahmad Kaabour - Ounadikom

Ahmad Kaabour is a Lebanese pan-Arab nationalist, and his song Ounadikom ("I Call on You") has expressed, like no other song, the Palestinian need for the world's solidarity. He has been referred to as "the voice of freedom" - a well-deserved title.
Kaabour explains, "When I composed Ounadikom at an age of nineteen, I then leaped over my age, my feelings and my life; my songs and the war were ahead of me. And here I am - since the occupation took place - enduring a fatal leisure that pushes me to genuinely explore love and man. I do not wish to be a minute object in a consumary system, or a bad witness of reality... "
This album, arguably his best, contains several songs about Palestine, including Heartbeat of the West Bank,and Depart. The first track, Ounadikom, is powerful and empowering, and has been used as a protest chant. The rest of the CD is also brilliant.
Originally released in 1976, then again in 1996, and now we present the third edition, released in 2004 (with a newer cover than the 1996 one pictured on the right).

Knossos - Dark Light In The Wake Of Silence

The music of Knossos traces an instrumental excursion into the heart of world fusion; assembling post-rock sensibility with the complexity of IDM, D&B and Abstract Electronica. Featuring a myriad of eastern instruments in an environment of ambient guitar clusters, electronic glitch, and dense rhythmic intensity.
Dann M. Torres is a multi-instrumentalist with an affection for acoustic experimentation and electronic manipulation. Well versed in a variety of musical styles and idioms, from world fusion to post-rock, experimental to ambient jazz, Dann's divergent approach to sound design seeks to deconstruct genres into a sound that is compelling and unique. His current project, Knossos, is a unusual blend of middle-eastern instrumentation with dense percussive layers of organic sounds and textured beats. Truly electro-acoustic in nature, the premise of the Knossos sound centers on the manipulation of eastern acoustic instruments with signal processing and ambient distress. Dann lives in the LA area and has worked with Solace, Shaman's Dream, Azam Ali from Vas, and a variety of other diverse musicians in the studio, and in improvised performance.

Hazmat Modine - Bahamut

Hazmat Modine is the kind of ensemble that could have come only from New York. The core group consists of harmonica virtuosos Wade Schuman and Randy Weinstein, tuba player Joseph Daly, drummer Richard Huntley, guitarist Pete Smith, and Pamela Fleming on trumpet and flugelhorn. The fifteen-track CD presents an ensemble with a Sybil complex of multiple musical personalities. "Yesterday Morning" resembles a New Orleans funeral dirge with a reggae beat. "It Calls Me" melds the Mississippi Delta with Huun-Huur-Tu's Asian-born Tuvan throat singing. The exotic array of instruments includes the Romanian cimbalon, zamponia, Hawaiian steel guitar, electric banjitar, contrabass sax, claviola, and bass marimba. Shiva in Exile - Ethnic

Shiva in exile - these are the new arrogant solo - project of Stephan Khertrikha, vocalist Darkseed and Betray My Secrets. Debyutnyy album was named "Ethnic" and it includes 14 dark ambient/ethno songs. Stephan used atmospheric electronics, churn drills, different sonic effects, muzhskoy/zhenskiy of vokaly from entire peace, including the drums of nepal'skogo shaman, recorded by the German author by Christian ratshem, who lives in the scaffolding already many years and it regularly attends the exotic countries. You can hear the Arab, Indian, malaziyskiye, Thai, people Canadian motives, surrounded by the dark and melancholy atmosphere. Album was professionally mixed by Christian bistron, guitarist Megaherz and Betray my Secrets, who also used several his ideas. Album was released Trostlos Records during May by 2003. It also earned the first prize Just Plain Folks Music Award. This music for all friends gothic, electronic and ethnic music.
