Samuel Davis Erwin - 50 Hymns On Guitar

Samuel David Erwin was born on St. Paddy's Day, March 17,1951 in Columbia,S.C. How appropriate for a young lad with Irish blood flowing through his veins. He began playing and studying guitar at the age of 14 and soon was playing with local rythm and blues and beach music bands. Early musical influences included the Beatles, Steve Cropper, Jimi Hendrix, Terry Kath, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, Wes Montgomery, John McLaughlin and Miles Davis. The variety of these artists would be paramount in the developement of Samuel David's ability to be comfortable and excel in various styles of musical expression.
Over the years he has traveled the world performing and recording with many artists including the Sensational Epics, Wildfire, Sanctuary, the Drifters, Coasters, Percey Sledge, Marvin Gaye, Tony Orlando & Dawn, the Thrasher Brothers, the Imperials, Brenda Lee, the Judds, Charly McClain, Dobie Gray, Otis Blackwell,Bobby Whitlock, Paul Overstreet and Holly Dunn. He has performed on the Grand Old Opry, the WheelingJamboree, Hee Haw, Austin City Limits, Nashville Now, Music City Tonight and other TV shows. David has worked theater gigs in New York City and has appeared in several movies.
Samuel David is an active studio musician having worked in Atlanta, New Orleans, L.A. and Nashville. He has played on records, demos, local and national jingles and movie and TV soundtracks. He also works as a producer for records, demos and jingles.
As a guitarist Samuel David is a perfectionist. But he has always been able to transcend the physical into the realm of pure emotion, soul and spirit. At one point in his career he was recording with legendary musician/singer Bobby Whitlock (Derek & the Dominoes). After listening to a playback of a solo Samuel David had just overdubbed, Bobby turned from the console looked him in the eye and said,"You got what Eric (Clapton) and Dwayne's (Allman) got." Enough said !
An active songwriter, Samuel David has had songs recorded by the Four Tops, Marie Osmond, Louise Mandrell, Brook Benton, the Archers, Charly McClain as well as others. He has recieved writer and publisher awards from the American Songwriter Festival and ASCAP.
Samuel David resides outside of Nashville,TN with his high school sweetheart,Beverly, (married 1970) and two dalmations Brownie and Merry. He has two married daughters and four grandchildren.
On the spiritual front Samuel David became a born again, Spirit-filled believer in Jesus Christ in the summer of 1972 - a journey that has worked much humility and maturity into his life. Through Dance Like David Ministries and his musical giftings it is his desire to enlighten through truth and encourage with hope all who have ears to hear.

Katia Harb Collection

Katia Harb is a Lebanese singer who began her musical career by participating in LBC’s Studio Al Fan. Her debut album was “Al Bab Al A'ali”, which was succeeded by “Baye’ni” and “Men Dalla?”. After a long absence from music, Katia returned in 2004 with a changed image, and her biggest hit yet, “Katia”. “Katia” was Katia’s first independently-produced album, and also her most famous with hits like “Ma Fina”, “Ad El Hob”, and “Abadan”. Katia took an indefinite break from music, and public life in general, in 2005 to study faiths. It is unclear if she plans to return to public life.

Ojos De Brujo - Techari

The Barcelona-based nuevo-roots outfit is back with a third entertaining, anarchistic yet wildly danceable amalgam. The rousing guitar of Ramón Giménez and sinuous, Moorish-tinged vocals of Marina "la Canillas" Abad are wreathed in handclaps and percussion, plus scathing brass charts, remarkably creative scratching, beats and other electronic embellishments. There are also flurries of quotes from a far-flung array of traditions outside their own, such as reggae and rap, but the band's antic inclusiveness never derails their individuality or adulterates the heritages of their collaborators. After all, their hometown is one of Europe's great musical hotbeds, in which flamenco, rumba Catalana and other local styles are often fused with whatever is at hand or just arrived. Guest stars this time out include Faada Freddy from the Senegalese hip-hop collective Daara J, Indian fusioneers Prithpal Rajput and Nitin Sawhney, and Cuban pianist Roberto Carcàsses. From nearer home, Flamenco guitar legend Pepe Habichuela and Spanish singing star Martirio sit in, along with tres and guitar master Raúl Rodrígues of Son de la Frontera, another band with fervent global leanings, this time toward Cuba. The lush packaging includes a CD-ROM containing videos, lyric translations, works by fourteen illustrators and other extras.

Ojos De Brujo return with a fine collection of all that’s exciting from their base in Barcelona and beyond. ‘Techari’ (‘free’ in Romany) bursts forth with 14 songs that take in their Flamenco and Celtic roots and nourish them with Buleria Funk, Reggae, Tango, Bhangra and Hip Hop. Adding global spice are special guests Faada Freddy from Daara J, Asian Dub Foundation's Prithpal Rajput, Nitin Sawhney, Cuban pianist Roberto Carcassés, respected flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela and Cuban tres and flamenco guitarist Raúl Rodríguez. Since their ‘Bari’ album was released in March ‘04 Spanish collective Ojos De Brujo have toured the world picking up fans, shifting CDs - 15,000 on import in the UK alone - and winning awards along the way, including the BBC Radio World Music Artist of the Year 2003. Their spectacular show at Glastonbury 2004 was featured in the TV broadcast and they also appeared on Later with Jools Holland.Both the CD and Book version will have a bonus CD Rom including videos, photos and lyrics translation in 15 different languages. The CD version comes in a special Digipack including a high quality 32 page booklet. The book version will have a hardcover as well as 60 pages including art from 14 different artists around the world.

Nidaa Abou Mrad - The Art Of Maqam On The Violin And Viola

Nidaa Abou Mrad is one of the rare upholders of the Arab Near-Eastern classical music tradition, related to the modal system of maqâm. He is a violinist and improviser of a renowned talent, as well as a composer in the traditional style. He is a musicologist and the Director of the High Institute of Music at the Antonine University (Lebanon). As a scholar and as the Director of the Ensemble of Classical Arab Music, he revivaled two unique corpus of melodies written by Safiy a-d-Dîn al-Urmawî, from the Abbasid Era, and by Mikhâ’îl Mashshâqa from the early Nahda Era (Arabic renaissance of the 19th century).

Mansour Rahbani - Zenobia

Mansour Rahbani
(1925 – January 13, 2009) was a Lebanese composer, musician and producer, known as one of the Rahbani brothers.
He was born in Antelias, in 1925, and grew up in an artistic environment. He studied successively at the Ibreen Sisters School of Antelias, the Farid Abou Fadel School, the Kamal Moukarzel School and the Jesuit School at Bikfaya. When his father died, Rahbani, and joined Beirut's judicial police when he was seventeen years old.
He received his first musical education on the hands of Father Paul el Achkar, following which he studied Eastern music, musical scores, melodies, Harmony, counterpoint, orchestration and musical analysis. Rahbani was also thoroughly acquainted with rare and valuable references such as the Kamel el Khalay book, the compositions of El Kendy and El Faraby, and the Shehabiya research in Arab musical melodies. Rahbani studied for nine years under the guidance of Bertrand Robillard, who is considered to be the main catalyst which allowed the young Rahbani’s talent to shine through. In the words of composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab, Mansour’s musical gift changed the fate of Eastern music and song.

Zenobia
(b. 240 - ?) was a 3rd century Syrian queen of the Palmyrene Empire. After her father's death, she headed their nomadic Arab tribe, before becoming the second wife of King Septimius Odaenathus. She became queen of the Palmyrene empire following Odaenathus' death in 267.
By 269, Zenobia had expanded the empire, conquering Egypt and expelling the Roman prefect, Tenagino Probus, who was beheaded after he led an attempt to recapture the territory. She ruled over Egypt until 274, when she was defeated and taken as a hostage to Rome by Aurelian. Reportedly she was locked in golden chains after being captured and brought to Rome in this way. She wore golden handcuffs in Aurelian's military triumph parade. Aurelian was so impressed by Zenobia that he freed her, granting her an elegant villa in Tibur (modern Tivoli, Italy) where she became a prominent philosopher, socialite and Roman matron.

Oussama Rahbani - New Order

Oussama Rahbani is the youngest son of Mansour Rahbani who is one of the legendary Rahbani Brothers. He was born in Lebanon on December 9 1965. Growing up in the Rahbani household, music was a big part of Oussama's life from very early on . From age 8, he studied piano and music theory with the renowned teacher Hagop Arslanian.

Influences

When he reached the age of 18, Oussama got interested in Jazz after hearing his cousin Ziad's recording "Houdou' Nisbi", an attempt at fusing Jazz with Arabic music. After that, he discovered Jazz pianist Chick Corea whose music was to be a major influence on him. At the same time, he got heavily into the works of classical composers Stravinsky, Mozart and Mahler. Another great area of interest for Oussama was film music .He was fascinated by the work of composers John Williams, Bernard Herman, Miklos Rosza and Ennio Morricone to name a few. Between 1986 and 1989, he was a member of the Beirut band "Jazz Gate". The group put together a series of successful concerts like the "History of Jazz" concert in 1987 and the "Winter Concert 89".

Willie And Lobo collection

Wolfgang "Lobo" Fink was born in the tiny Bavarian village of Teisendorf, halfway around the world from his musical partner. The 18-year-old Lobo first picked up his chosen instrument while serving as a signalman in the German navy. After hearing an album by gypsy guitarist Manitas de Plata, the young mariner discovered his affinity for the romantic, rhythmic music. After completing his term of service, he searched out de Plata, ultimately finding the guitarist residing in a gypsy camp in Southern France. Lobo spent a while with de Plata and his people, hanging out and absorbing the music.
Upon his return to Germany, Lobo formed Lailo, a flamenco group which toured Europe for three years and did much to popularize the modern gypsy sound. Longing for new ways to express himself, Lobo journeyed to the famous caves of Sacromonte in Granada, Spain, to spend a year living and studying with the gypsies. In 1980, he headed to Mexico and began working as a solo act.
Willie and Lobo's first fateful meeting came in 1983, when the two musicians were both working at Mama Mia's restaurant in the colonial town of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. Willie was playing fiddle with a local salsa combo, while Lobo played solo flamenco guitar on the patio. Though they jammed occasionally, Willie and Lobo were still searching for their individual sound, recording a number of solo albums before finally uniting in 1990 in Puerto Vallarta. They soon made a live recording of a swinging Willie and Lobo set, which they dubbed PLAYING HARD.
Willie and Lobo's increasing popularity and musicality led to their involvement in the soundtrack to the 1995 independent film, Shadow of the Pepper Tree. In addition, their music played a prominent role in the 1997 film, Fuochi d'artifico, produced by Vittorio and Rita Cecchi Gori (Il Postino, Mediterraneo, Johnny Stecchino), and was used as accompaniment by Ukrainian skater Yulia Lavrenchuk at the 1999 World Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki, Finland.
When not touring or recording, Willie and Lobo are likely to be found catching a wave near their homes, Willie on the West Coast of Florida and Lobo on the Mexican coast. These two rockin' surfin' gypsy dudes have had their music used in the surfing documentary, Blazing Longboards, and continue to name songs after their favorite surfing spots.
