Cheikha Remitti

Posted By Demnagirl On Friday, July 31, 2009 0 comments
Cheikha Rimitti was born in Tessala, a small village in western Algeria in 1923, and named Saadia, meaning joyful. This name did not match the reality of her early life, however as she had been orphaned as a child and began to live rough, earning a few francs working in the fields and doing other menial jobs.

Early musical career
At 15 she joined a troupe of traditional Algerian musicians and learnt to sing and dance. In 1943 she moved to the rural town of Relizane and began writing her own songs. Her songs described the tough life endured by the Algerian poor, focusing on everyday struggle of living, pleasures of sex, love, alcohol and friendship and the realities of war.
Traditionally, songs of lust had been sung privately by Algerian women at rural wedding celebrations but were considered crude and unfit to be heard in polite society. Rimitti was one of the first to sing them in public and did so in the earthy language of the street, using a rich blend of slang and patois. She eventually composed more than 200 songs but remained illiterate all her life.

Recognition across Algeria
Her fame spread by word of mouth across Algeria during the Second World War until she was taken under the patronage of a well-known Algerian musician of the time, Cheikh Mohammed Ould Ennems, who took her to Algiers where she made her first radio broadcasts. Soon after, she adopted the name Cheikha Rimitti.
She made her first record in 1952, a three-track on Pathé Records under the name Cheikha Remettez Reliziana, which included the famous Er-Raï Er-Raï. This was not to be the record that launched her career, however. That came two years later when Rimitti caused a sensation with the release of Charrak Gattà a daring hit record, which encouraged young women to lose their virginity and which scandalised Muslim orthodoxy. Her outlook and songs did not endear her to the nationalist forces fighting for freedom from French rule during the Algerian War of Independence who denounced her for singing folklore perverted by colonialism.
When Algeria won its independence in 1962, the Government banned her from radio and television for playing on them under French control during the independence struggle. Her songs remained hugely popular with the working-class poor and she continued to sing privately at weddings and feasts.

Recognition outside Algeria and by other artists
By the 1970s she was performing mostly for the Algerian immigrant community in France. Briefly returning to Algeria in 1971, she was badly hurt in a car crash (being in a coma for three weeks) in which three of her musicians were killed.
Four years later she went on a hadj to Mecca, after which her lifestyle (though not her songs or subject matter) changed. She stopped smoking and drinking, but continued her singing and dancing, and by the mid-80s, when Rai was becoming established as the rousing dance music of angry young Algerians, Rimitti was being hailed as la mamie du Rai, the grandmother of the style.
In the 1980s, Cheikha Rimitti moved to Paris, loosening her ties with the Algerian authorities but never cutting herself off from the Algerian people, her first fans.

Later life & death
Her music crossed over to the West and she undertook prestigious concerts in big cities and worldwide capitals as well as collaborating with Robert Fripp and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the "Sidi Mansour" LP in 1994, inaugurating a new electric form of raï.
Her back catalogue was rediscovered by a new generation raï successors including Khaled who has covered "The Camel". Many singers of the new generation venerated her as "The Mother Of The Genre" and Rachid Taha dedicated a song to her, "Rimitti".
Her most recent album N’ta Goudami, released in 2006, was a lustful combination of traditional Algerian and modern rock sounds sung in a deep voice of booming energy that belied her 83 years and garnered enthusiastic reviews [2]. For someone who had been officially banned in Algeria, Rimitti marked rai history by taking the defiant step of recording her last album at the Boussif Studios in Oran, the city where rai music was born over a century ago.
She continued performing until the end — two days before she died she was rapturously received by an audience of 4,500 at the Zénith in Paris.
She died in a Paris from a heart attack on 15 May 2006, aged 83, and is survived by 4 children, all of whom live in Algeria

Escala - Escala

Posted By Demnagirl On Friday, July 31, 2009 0 comments
CD Description
Escala, the divine electric string quartet who caused a sensation in the final of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent 2008, finally unleash their astonishing debut album. Fusing contemporary sounds with classical instruments, Escala boast the freshest and most innovative sound of the year. Featuring the "Chi Mai" theme by Ennio Morricone, Craig Armstrong’s haunting "Finding Beauty", Led Zeppelin’s "Kashmir", "Children", by the Swiss Italian DJ Robert Miles, "Live and Let Die" by Wings and Escala’s signature tune, "Palladio", the eclectic collection showcases the girls’ wide-ranging love of modern music. The album has been produced by iconic, Grammy Award-winning British musician Trevor Horn, famed for his work with Cher, Seal, Paul McCartney, Pet Shop Boys, Charlotte Church, Mike Oldfield and many others.
Escala are violinists Victoria Lyon and Izzy Johnston. Chantal Leverton, a viola player and cellist Tasya Hodges, complete the line up. The ladies are deadly serious about their music, playing both acoustic and electric instruments and bringing stylish high-octane showmanship to their performances.

Review
Classical crossover quartet Escala (formerly Scala) rose to fame after reaching the final of Britain's Got Talent in 2008. Comprised of Victoria Lyon and Izzy Johnston (on violin), Chantal Leverton (viola) and Tasya Hodges (cello), their debut album has been produced by the one and only Grammy-winning Trevor Horn (Seal, Pet Shop Boys, Charlotte Church). Escala mixes highbrow classical compositions with accessible pop songs, offering a diverse array of music that spans Barber’s "Adagio for Strings", Handel’s "Sarabande" plus Wings’ "Live & Let Die" and Robert Miles’ "Children". More unlikely are the appearance of Rob Dougan’s "Clubbed To Death", Led Zeppelin’s "Kashmir" and Craig Armstrong’s haunting "Finding Beauty". The range is suitably impressive, and though these ladies don’t like pushing the envelope overly much, they do create a mood of lingering elegance and class. --Danny McKenna

Inga Rumpf - Live im Michel

Posted By Demnagirl On Thursday, July 30, 2009 0 comments
Inga Rumpf is one of the best-known German R&B singers. Her voice often drew comparisons to Janis Joplin, but Inga Rumpf was able to develop her own unique vocal style. Catapulted to stardom in the ‘70s with her band Frumpy, she released a number of highly acclaimed solo works in the ‘80s and ‘90s and has now to be regarded as the grand old lady of R&B made in Germany. Whereas other German female vocalists such as Nina Hagen faded away over time, she consequently followed her path and never compromised herself artistically (unlike her ex-bandmate Udo Lindenberg whose creativity died down by the end of the ‘80s and who now outputs nothing more than lightweight pop).
Born on Aug. 2nd, 1946 in Hamburg (Germany), Inga Rumpf started performing as a teenager with different blues bands in the Hamburg entertainment district of St. Pauli. In 1965, she founded the folk band City Preachers and recorded three albums with them. After a creative crisis in 1969, the band changed styles from folk to a mix of beat and soul. A new line-up reflected this: Jean-Jacques Kravetz (keyb), Karl-Heinz Schott (b) and Udo Lindenberg (dr) formed the core of the new band which one year later was to become Frumpy when Udo Lindenberg left to start a solo career and was replaced by Carsten Bohn. Frumpy recorded only two albums, All Will Be Changed (1970) and Frumpy 2 (1971) -- the latter containing the hit single How The Gipsy Was Born -- but these two LPs rewrote German rock history. The band was praised as the best German rock act, and Inga Rumpf was declared to be the greatest individual vocal talent of the German rock scene so far.

Suizen style shakuhachi player Riley Lee offers nearly an hour of peaceful flute improvisations with ORIENTAL SUNRISE. The album is comprised of four tracks, each of which prominently feature Lee's shakuhachi flute alongside the fluid strumming of the koto and environmental sounds like the ocean surf and birdsong. This highly meditative soundscape is perfect for any sort of zen/mindfulness activity - it will help you find inner harmony and achieve powerful states of enlightenment.
Riley Lee is one of the few outside Japan to attain the rank of dai shihan (grand master) on the shakuhachi flute. His fluid sound and warm tone are the results of years of study in Japan. He has has the unique ability to bridge differences of culture, infusing the quiet dignity of Japanese music with the freedom of contemporary instrumental music.
ORIENTAL SUNRISE features the evocative sound of the shakuhachi flute and koto in a series of improvisatory duets inspired and enhanced by the sounds of nature. The peace and tranquility of this album invite the listener to share an experience that is calm, awake, and in touch with the Earth.

Kayhan Kalhor & Mohammad Reza Shajarian - Night Silence Desert

Posted By Demnagirl On Wednesday, July 29, 2009 0 comments
Kayhan Kalhor is the world's leading exponent of the kamancheh, an upright spike fiddle. Renowned for his work with Ghazal, a group that bridges Indian and Persian music, he applies a similar approach to Iranian folk and classical forms on Night Silence Desert. The Radif (Persian classical repertoire) grew from folk forms, but over the centuries the music evolved from its simple rural origins into an elaborately ornamented and rigorously structured style. This album doesn't take the music back to its basics--there's too much refined virtuosity on display. But the musicians infuse their playing with a vigor and crisp cohesion that belies the record's fitful production. First Kalhor convened 11 strummers, drummers, and flute blowers in Tehran in 1994 to lay down the sweeping instrumental passages. Four years later he and vocalist Shajarian finished the record in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The two men exchange intricate call-and-response melodies that radiate impassioned exhilaration
Born in 1940 in the city of Mash’had in northeastern Iran, Mohammad Reza Shajarian began singing spiritual songs at the age five under the supervision of his father. Only a few years later his precocious talent was to be renowned throughout the town of Mash’had. In spite of his religious upbringing, at the age of twelve he was familiarizing himself with the traditional song repertoire and the first piece he was to sing was the Gham-Angiz Goosheh of Dashti. He was also interested at the same time in popular music from Khorasan and the other regions of Iran. His focus at first was on the local folk music of his native province, Khorasan, but later at the age of twelve he studied the traditional repertoire, the Radif. After college, he became a schoolteacher and was to find himself at much greater liberty to study all forms of traditional music and gradually relinquish religious singing. What follows is a resume of the major landmarks in Mohammad Reza Shajarian’s artistic career. On the arrival in Teheran he met Ahmad Ebadi, the great Setar master who is today sole heir to the musical tradition upheld by his family. His meeting of the late Esmail Mehrtash was to initiate him in the fine nuances of traditional singing, in popular melodies and in artistic technique.
Right from the earliest age he learnt how to sing the different versions of the Radif from the most highly reputed singers such as Reza Gholi Mirza Zelli, Ghamar-ol Molouk Vaziri, Eghbal-Soltan Azar, and Taaj Esfahani Noor-Ali Khan Boroomand and Taher Zadeh Esfahani.

Group Doueh - Treeg Salaam (Streets Of Peace )

Posted By Demnagirl On Wednesday, July 29, 2009 0 comments
The group is part of a family entertainment business run by Doueh, a Dakhla native whose birth name was Salmou Baamar. As a youth, he took a shine to the sounds of James Brown and Jimi Hendrix, which he heard on cassettes imported from Spain. His first experiences as a professional musician playing at local parties coincided with Mauritania’s occupation of Dakhla, and you can hear both Western rock sounds and Mauritanian rhythms in his music, which he’s been performing throughout the region and marketing on cassette for over a quarter century. Doueh plays the tinidit (a.k.a. tidinit), a Moorish four-stringed lute, and electric guitar; according to a recent Wire article, he favors a Fender run through a few pedals. The rest of the group includes vocalists Bashiri Touballi and Halima Jakani (his wife) and keyboardist Jamaal Baamar (his son). Rhythm duties are shared between collective handclaps, Halima’s tbal (a hand drum), and the keyboard’s drum programs.

When they aren’t playing at local festivals and weddings, Doueh runs a cassette dubbing shop, and that’s where Sublime Frequencies’ Hisham Mayet located him after a search up and down Morocco to find the musician responsible for “Eid For Dakhla,” the raucous, backbeat-heavy ruckus that opens Doueh’s first LP Guitar Music From the Western Sahara. That record also kicked off Sublime Frequencies’ series of vinyl-first releases of contemporary guitar music heard around the Maghreb. Although Group Doueh’s music enjoys the same no-budget recording quality as the rest of the series, it differs significantly from the Touareg-rooted approaches of Group Inerane and Group Bombino. The music of the desert interior sounds like the blues, sometimes jacked up to rock distortion and intensity; Doueh’s has a more complex rhythmic underpinning, closer to the Master Musicians of Jajouka or flamenco, and adheres to traditional Mauritanian modes that spin the melodies down different paths than those of their deep Saharan brethren, more elaborate but less open-ended.

This spring the Sublime Frequencies put together a European tour for Group Doueh and labelmate Omar Souleyman, which occasioned the release of Treeg Salaam, which like its predecessor was culled from Doueh’s massive cassette archive. Mayet selected music recorded between 1989-1996, which makes some of it significantly older than the mostly recent material on the first LP, but without annotation, there’s no sense of artistic evolution. Instead, what comes across is the impression that this band puts on one hell of a party. The shorter tracks on side A move at a frantic pace, with twinned vocals skywriting melismatic trails over pounding, unevenly accented beats; in the background, you can hear the ladies screaming and ululating their appreciation. Doueh’s buzzing, heavily phased guitar sound is the glue that holds it all together. He’s an elastic presence on “Min Binat Omun,” bouncing between funk-like fills and boingy, wahwah-laden leads; on “Beatte Harab” the guitar skirls and drones almost bagpipe-like, weaving in and out of the vocal lines. Flip the record over and you’re probably closer to what Group Doueh would sound like if you booked them now. “Tazit Kalifa” is a sidelong performance that is more varied and dynamic than anything else Doueh has let out of Western Sahara. Jamal’s keyboard, set to a churchy organ voice, is a dominant voice, and his relentless rhythm machine isn’t far behind. Doueh’s electric guitar spars with an acoustic tinidit, and both trade licks with the spiraling organ. Beats come in and out of the mix, giving release from the tension generated by long solo groove-less passages where Bashiri sings over repetitive keyboard riffs.

Treeg Salaam, which translates as “Streets of Peace,” does everything you would want from the follow-up to a successful introductory effort. It gives you a bit more of the raw immediacy and worlds-colliding style that Guitar Music From The Western Sahara served up so well

At his second album 'BAHAR' (LIBRA MUSIC / 2000), Ablianitis met the world famous Indian flute player, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, and one of the best Greek singers, Manolis Lidakis. Not only 'BAHAR' is a very interesting project, but also it was hit at once. Makis became famous and many labels ask for licence to include tracks of BAHAR in their collections.
On January 2004 was released MOSAIC (LIBRA MUSIC), the album of the famous Greek singer Maria Farantouri (featuring: Glen Velez, Fuat Saka, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ross Daly). Makis Ablianitis has given 3 songs to Farantouri and made all the arrangements of the album.
Makis Ablianitis has numerous participations in festivals and concerts in Greece, Turkey and FYROM.

Joe Loss & His Orchestra Collection

Posted By Demnagirl On Tuesday, July 28, 2009 0 comments
The Joe Loss Orchestra was one of the most successful acts of the Big Band era in the 1940s with hits including "In the Mood". In 1961 they had a hit with 'Wheels Cha Cha', a revival of the String-A-Longs' hit 'Wheels'. Other hits included David Rose's "The Stripper" in 1958 and "March of the Mods (The Finnjenka Dance)" of 1964.

Loss's daughter Jennifer was the wife of famous British coachbuilder Robert Jankel. Elvis Costello's father, Ross McManus, sang with the Joe Loss Orchestra. The Joe Loss Orchestra carries on to this day under the musical direction of Todd Miller who was a vocalist with the band for many years prior to Joe Loss's death. Todd sought and obtained the permission of Joe's widow to carry on the band's name.

Arash - Donya

Posted By Demnagirl On Tuesday, July 28, 2009 0 comments
After his debut self-titled album Arash in 2005 and a remix CD called Crossfade, Donya is the third main album from Arash which was released in the early days of 2008 — a successful result of a collaboration with some famous artist, like Shaggy, and a huge label, Warner Music Germany. Donya starts with a completely traditional Iranian intro and smoothly joins the title song "Donya," featuring Shaggy. There are a total of 14 songs on the album, six of which are multilingual — five in Persian-English and one in Hindustani-Persian. Hindustani sound (melody and singing) is again a relativelymore… big part of the album, while its weight is reduced as compared to previous releases by Arash in which it was exaggerated in some sense. There are more Persian melodies in Donya instead. After song "Donya" comes "Suddenly," featuring Rebecca (Zadig), a Swedish female singer whose previous track with Arash called "Temptation" on 2005's Arash gained much attention from some online music stores and became one of Arash's best sellers. "Kandi" and "Pure Love" are the next two consecutive songs featuring Lumidee and Helena, respectively, after which sensational and slow "Pure Love" can be considered as an interlude for the album. The next half of the album contains two other highlights: "Chori Chori," which is the only Hindustani- Persian song featuring Aneela, and "Dasa Bala" ("Put Your Hands Up") which is, in fact, some sort of Persian-English hip-hop song. The album ends with a remix of the title song "Donya." Although there are lots of sounds on the album, from reggae to (even) rock in "Naro," and to Latin in "Pure Love," the main genre is electronica while sharing lots of styles, mainly club/dance. The biggest problem with Donya is its lyrics, which tried to include some expressions and elements from Iranian modern street culture. In essence, this is a common difficulty for artists who are eager to do so while they are apart from today's culture of Iran. Sometimes this results in ridiculous verses which are completely unfamiliar with Persian listeners. Although lyrics are not "that" important in dance albums, they are in Donya, and there are some songs that lack this lyrical consistency, like "Naro," "Laf Laf," and "Dooset Nadaram." While not critical, the more coherent lyrics for "Donya," "Miduni Midunam," and "Joone Man" make them great dance songs.

Kudsi Erguner Ensemble - Rembetiko from Istanbul

Posted By Demnagirl On Monday, July 27, 2009 0 comments
Kudsi Erguner lives and works in Paris as musician (Ney-flute, which is a reed flute), composer, musicologist, teacher, author, and translator.
Erguner comes from a family of Turkish musicians. His contact with many famous musicians from the older generation, who continually passed through his parents house, and his involvement with various Sufi-brotherhoods, whose music and teachings Erguner studied, left their decisive marks on him. He received his training directly from his father, Ulvi Erguner, who was the last great master of the Ney.
Kudsi Erguner has given concerts and played in major festivals throughout the world. He has researched the music of India, Pakistan, and Turkey, grounded diverse music ensembles, recorded numerous albums, and has worked with such well known artists as Peter Gabriel (Passion, US), Maurice Béjart, Peter Brook, Georges Aperghis, Didier Lockwood, and Michel Portal. Erguner has thus made authoritative contributions to World Music. He has documented and revived nearly forgotten musical traditions and brought them to the attention of the Western public, securing them a place within Europe's cultural inheritance.

Ashik - Gypsy Soul

Posted By Demnagirl On Monday, July 27, 2009 0 comments
Review
Soul music where desire and passion meet: Ashik knows how to create these stirring emotions ... and the vehicle is the violin: passionate, artistic, masterful, and creative!!! He has mastered Hungarian, Russian Gypsy, Celtic and even Appalachian fiddle techniques & skills, proving on this CD he is an expert!
The first track "Czardasz" is definitely zestful, energetic, & 100% spicey Hungarian music. Track #2 is a blending of styles, Hungarian, Celtic & Appalachian along with the Celtic pennywhistle, it is done tastefully and seamlessly. Track #3: "Seven Mad Gypsies" needs no explanation ... use your imagination. This CD produces natural emotional highs, with the crescendo and decrescendo of the reverberating violin strings. Ashik creates waves of feeling in any listener which awakens the "fire within". Great music!

Joachim Kühn, Majid Bekkas, Ramon Lopez - Out Of The Desert

Posted By Demnagirl On Monday, July 27, 2009 1 comments
The great avant-garde pianist Joachim Kühn celebrated his 64th birthday on 15th March, 2008, and spent it in the desert doing what he does best - making music. He played in the middle of the Sahara with Moroccan Berbers, the desert musicians of the “Source Bleue des Meski”, a small oasis near the Algerian border. First they jammed directly at the spring, and then they went and recorded at the near-by Palms Hotel on the outskirts of the town of Erfoud. “It was also completely ringed by desert”, says Kühn. “I’m a fan of the desert, and I have travelled a lot, but the trip here went through some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen. On arrival we immediately started playing; we didn’t do a lot of talking first, although, because of the tourism, the Berbers have a good command of every possible language. These musicians are some of the friendliest, most gracious people I have ever met. They are totally relaxed and open. Everything functioned “Inshallah” with a mixture of planning and improvisation. Ever since I was there, I don’t have any more stress. This was my most beautiful birthday present, a great experience, and an amazing musical inspiration.”

Fairuz - Ya'Eesh… Ya'Eesh

Posted By Demnagirl On Sunday, July 26, 2009 0 comments
Booklet Summary:

The Rahbani Brothers have written some very successful satirical plays, one of them is "Ya'eesh Ya'eesh". In this play they are dealing with the question of coups, where the ruler of an imaginary country "Mida" is deposed and a committee takes control of the administration. The emperor manages to escape under the guise of an ordinary citizen (Barhoum), pretending to have left after quarreling with his wife and mother-in-law. He takes refuge in a village shop claiming that he will go back when things cool down a bit.
From the gossip that takes place in the shop he obtains a lot of information on the general situation in his country. He also establishes a friendship with the leader of a gang of smugglers and again through the gossip he finds that another coup is being planned, in which the leader of the smugglers is taking part. To his delight he also knows that the group have decided to appoint him as Head of State.
The coup takes place and the Emperor, as Barhoum, is appointed Head of State. The first thing he does is to send a group of his followers to look for the rulers of the old regime. He sends them to the village shop in case they are hiding as he did under a disguise.
Having a general idea about the plot, we are more easily to sit back and enjoy the pleasure of the music and the singing of a very fine cast.

Kara Nomadica

Posted By Demnagirl On Sunday, July 26, 2009 0 comments
Kara Nomadica is a Middle-Eastern fusion band with a sound inspired by traditional Arabic and Turkish rhythms and maqamat (scales) as well as modern industrial/techno music. Its members have well over a century of combined musical experience. The members of Kara Nomadica play a vast array of traditional instruments, including oud, saz, darabuka, arabic tabla, riq, frame drum, dholla, davul, muzzar, ney, and didjeridoo?all solidly anchored in the 21st century by the fretless bass guitar and sythesizer. These ancient, and not-so-ancient, instruments blend to give the band?s original compositions a truly unique synergy, while breathing fresh life into their large repertoire of traditional songs from Turkey and the Arab world. Kara Nomadica?s goal is to bring its exotic Middle-Eastern fusion sound to a broad spectrum of music lovers, while specifically focusing on supporting the grace and beauty of the international bellydance community. Music critic John Zwick says, "Kara Nomadica is what happens when you bring together a mess of overqualified music geeks with Middle Eastern instruments you've never heard of?it's a damn captivating sound."

Al Caiola - Golden Guitar

Posted By Demnagirl On Friday, July 24, 2009 1 comments
Al Caiola (born Alexander Emil Caiola, September 7, 1920, Jersey City, New Jersey) is a guitarist who plays jazz, country, rock, western, and pop music. He has been both a studio musician and stage performer. He has recorded over fifty albums and has worked with some of the biggest stars of the 20th Century, including Frank Sinatra, Percy Faith, Buddy Holly, Mitch Miller, and Tony Bennett. During World War II Caiola played with the United States Marine Corps 5th Marine Division (United States) Band that also included Bob Crosby.[1] Caiola served in the Battle of Iwo Jima as a stretcher bearer.

Caiola was an active studio musician in the 1950s centered in the New York area. He released some minor records under his own name in that decade. In addition, he performed under the musical direction of John Serry, Sr. on an album for Dot Records in 1956 (Squeeze Play). In 1960 he became a recording star on the United Artists (UA) label for at least ten years. He had prominent pop hits in 1961 with "The Magnificent Seven" and "Bonanza". The style was inspired by Duane Eddy's twangy bass guitar sound. The arrangements were typically by Don Costa using a large orchestral backing. Caiola continuously released singles and albums throughout the 1960s and beyond, though no others appeared on the charts except for an entry in 1964 with "From Russia With Love". UA used him to make commercial recordings of many movie and television themes. A popular and sought-after album is 1961's Hit Instrumentals From Western TV Themes which included "Wagon Train (Wagons Ho)", "Paladin", "The Rebel" and "Gunslinger". It has been reissued in other forms since then. Solid Gold Guitar, probably his most impressive album, contained exciting big arrangements of "Jezebel", "Two Guitars", "Big Guitar", "I Walk the Line" and "Guitar Boogie".
The Magnificent Seven album, other than the title track, consisted of a variety of pop songs with a jazzy bent. Guitars Guitars Guitars was similar. There was a wide variety to his albums - soft pop, Italian, Hawaiian, country, jazz. The 1960s were his heyday. In the early 1970s he continued on the Avalanche Records label, producing similar work including the album Theme From the 'Magnificent 7 Ride' '73. Later, on other labels, came some ethnic-themed instrumental albums such as In a Spanish Mood in 1982, and Italian instrumentals.
