Oriental Evening
Back in the old days it was not hard for such legends to combine forces in making songs because art was the aim. The Rahbani brothers got Fairuz, Wadi Elsafi and Nasri to sing these songs. There is a beautiful duet by Fairuz and Wadi called 'Wadrat Ain Al Roummane'. There are solo songs by all Artists involved. The quality of the album is top notch. Booklet contains no information. Re-releases of this album and others like it should include more information on the events, at least the dates. Definite must have.
All Songs were written by: The Rahbani Brothers except for 'Rah Halfak Ya Tayr' which poem was written by Michel Tohme.

Fairuz - Sings Philemon Wehbe

This is yet another compilation of the songs Fairuz did with late Philemon Wehbe. This one consists of 12 songs. Some of them are taken from plays like Sayyef ya Sayf from 'Jibal As-swan' and Men Ezz Enoum from Loulou. There are two poems written by Joseph Harb. One can be found on Bi Layl We Chiti and the other on Dahab Ayloul. Also Tiri Ya Tayara is a nice children's song which can be found on Bint Al Harras soundtrack. OK, enough with the listing of songs. It's a great addition to anyone's collection. So get it. The booklet contains some written statments by Fairuz, Late Mohamed AbdelWahab and Saiid Akl about Wehbe.
All Songs were written by Philemon Wehbe (Music) and The Rahbani Brothers (Poems/Lyrics) except for the poems of songs 2 and 3 were written by the great Joseph Harb.

Fares Karam - El Hamdella

Fares Karam is a popular Lebanese singer who specializes in the Dabke style and Lebanese music in general, but with a more modernized twist. He has produced many hit singles around the Arab world & other parts of the Middle East such as El-Tanoura (The Skirt), Shefta (I Saw Her) and Neswanji (Womanizer). Throughout his career, he has participated in a large number of concerts, public celebrations, and festivals. Karam has also notably toured South America, USA, Australia and Canada.[

Fares Karam was born in Jezzine,in Southern Lebanon to a modest working-class Christian family. His father was a farmer and his mother worked as a teacher in the local school for their village. He has one sister who is the Lebanese singer Madonna. Karam rose to the limelight in the 1990s when he participated in the 1996-7 series of the Lebanese talent show Studio El Fan. His musical style in recent times is linked more closely to Dabke his live band play many of his songs with a large tabal drum. This has helped make his music very popular in Lebanese nightclubs where patrons like to dance the Dabke

Relentless worldwide touring and welcoming openness to music from all cultures position him as a rare artist who transcends political obstacles while maintaining traditional sensibilities in a way few artists can manage. He is a virtuoso on several instruments: The nay (bamboo flute), the zurna (double-reed oboe like instrument), the baglama (long-necked lute) and percussions , as well as a masterful performer on dozens more.

Dilek Koç - Sevdalim Aman

Dilek Koç (pronounced Dilék Kotch) is a very good and musically well educated Turkish singer who lives in Greece. She sings both contemporary (Sezen Aksu or Haris Alexiou style) songs, as well as Osmanli (classical Turkish) songs and türküler (folk Turkish) or Greek rebetika and older Asia Minor songs.
She has participated in a few records but has produced only one personal album, called "Karsi"; its subtitle being: "Songs from the common heritage of Greeks and Turks of Asia Minor".
Karsi (meaning "facing each other", in Turkish) is also the name of the group performing in the album, consisting of Greek musicians interested in the music of all Balkans and Eastern Mediterranean

Fairuz - At The Royal Festival Hall - London

At The Royal Festival Hall London 1986
Imagine you're standing in front of Royal Festival Hall in London on 13th of June 1986. It's 7:30 PM. It doesn't take long to realize it's one of the greatest summer nights of that year. Fairuz is performing in there. It really is something. While the Olympia album had the Rahbani brothers influence, this one was conducted by Ziad. The musical arrangements of the songs are very clear to be of Ziad. It seems that these same arrangements gave Ziad a lot of help when he started working on the To Assy album. If not for the date on the album, you'd think this concert was performed after the release of the To Assy album. The quality of the album is great and like the Olympia album, the clarity makes you feel you're there. Ziad played on the Piano and he did great by managing to play with the Orchestra in perfect harmony. He also made Khodni beautifully. Really amazing, only the Piano with Fairuz. Then Beaoulou Saghair Baladi starts and the applause gets warmer and warmer. Definitely the album doesn't include the entire concert. Maybe they cut out the other instrumentals and the choir songs. After all, How can a Fairuz concert be 45 minutes only? The booklet has articles in the three languages (Arabic, French and English) as well as pictures from the concert.

Behzad Aghabeigi - Strings Of Desire

Behzad Aghabeigi born in Tehran, found his passion for playing classical and Flamenco guitars at the age of thirteen. He obtained a B.A. degree in Economic Science and decided to move to London in 1990 to continue his studies.
During the course of completion of his additional studies in master's degree in Advanced Information Technology he was also composing and writing his own music materials.
After his graduation, he decided to devote all his time towards performance and production of music.
His first two releases, Gypsy Renaissance and Strings of Desire, had a great success in the heavy battled U.S. market. In his latest release, Luna y Sol, Behzad offers a captivating collection of inspired original instrumental compositions.
Performances with groups around the world such as Fantasia or Futuro Flamenco gave him the opportunity of showing his talent abroad.
Behzad and Nima joined together to create BeNi Guitars. They perform on many occasions around the world. The unique playing style of Behzad and his stature as one of the masters of new flamenco combined with the soulful voice of Nima create an exceptional band formation.

Istanbul - The Sex, The City, The Music

Darker and more dance-oriented than many of the other releases in this Petrol series, Sex, the City, the Music: Istanbul represents some of the music that's coming out of Turkey (an exception being the Brooklyn Funk Essentials' reggae-inspired "Istanbul Twilight," which really doesn't fit with anything else on the album). Most of the tracks, if they include vocals, are in Turkish, with most of the vocalists choosing a more Eastern chanting as opposed to Western-style melodies. As Turkey has always been a meeting point of cultures, there are also diverse influences found in its music, though being that The Sex, the City, the Music: Istanbul is more of a club-themed record, these influences aren't necessarily documented as well as they might be.
